Many children in Johnson County, Arkansas are going to school without their basic needs being met. There are many reasons for the lack of basic needs for these children. Some of them live in single parent, low-income households who struggle to make ends meet, often not having enough money to buy proper clothing for their children. Many children are victims of their parent's drug use. These children are "under the radar". They move frequently, staying a step ahead of DHS and law enforcement, often moving with only the clothes they are wearing. Many of these children end up staying with grand parents or great-grand parents who are already living on fixed incomes. Some of them become "couch surfers". They go from home to home of friends and relatives, often on a daily basis. This creates a situation where they will have an immediate need for clothing and toiletries when they arrive at school. We strive to support these children and lessen their burdens so that they will stay in school, receive their education, and give them a better chance to be successful in life.
